Book 1: "OLD AGE, GENDER and SOCIAL SECURITY"

`In the decade of healthy ageing` (UN/WHO) the demographic situation triggers crises. This

collection of essays contains interdsciplinary contributions by authors of African and

European cultures who adress questions about the situation of old people in the past and

present, comparing the situation of men and women and focusing on their protection and care

within society.

Book 2: "GENDER IN VISUAL CULTURE"


Visual culture is ubiquitous and helps to circulate knowledge and understanding about

different cultures. However: it requires "reading comprehension": the artist`s intention,

the cultural framework, codes and context need be understood; images have their own

subversive potential. New technologies tend to be used in areas defind as masculin, such as

the `public sphere`, workplaces and further gendered power structures. So how do women make

themselves visible in this male-centric contexts? Is there a shift in masculine identities?

The volume takes up examples fom Africa and Europe.

- Henry Kam Kah (PhD) is Ass.Prof. for History at the University of Buea (Cameroon).
- Gertrude Nkruhma is a PhD-Candidate at the Institute for African Studies, University of Ghana, and lecturer at the departement of History-Education at the Unoversity of Education in Winneba, Ghana.
- Samuel Aniegye Ntewusu, (PhD) is Prof. and Director of the Institute of African Studies at the University of Ghana. He ist Co-Editor of the book-series "Narrating (Hi)Stories. Culture and History in Africa".
